Calling it a month since tomorrow is Halloween and I have designated Saturday as my day off anyways. This month was my best of 09 I believe though I feel like I bled money in spots. I managed 35k hands which is awesome yet a bit disappointing but shit happens. Tomorrow I plan to make a plan for November which will involve some 200NL play. No longer am I in a rush to get to 200NL. I will play where my roll keeps me stress free and play my A-game. I know it sounds insane but 100NL can be crushed for a pretty sick income imo even 4 tabling. I mean fuck I managed to make $42 an hour before RB/Reload and points for cash. As long as I put in the hours and play my very best I dont see any reason why I cant maintain either. I plan to continue my lessons with my coach and study hard away from the tables. I dont have much more to say though I think I might move this blog back to my original again because I dont have any control of this one. For whatever reason I cant add links to the side bar or change the layout which tilts me a bit. So keep your eyes open for that. Lastly I want to plug this book again.

So the wife and I have been keeping our eyes open for a more suitable house for us and think we may have located just the place. Just wanted to ask those who read my blog to think some good thoughts as I have to prove income and what not so hopefully things will work out as this will be the perfect house in many ways. Been playing awesome lately and catching some cards hasnt hurt either. Roll is at a nice place and I have taken a few 200NL shots with success though I want to stick mainly to 100NL and just really grind a big cushion this time to maximize my mental comfort. Playing for a living it just isnt worth the pressure of shot taking and then having to withdraw and drop down. Basically that sentence might be way confusing but whatever.

Anyways just wanted to rant about today and how insane poker is. I love the game to death though it can be nasty at times. Anyways start the day off crushing 200NL with some sweet rivers and flops only to play out the day at 100NL and get pwned by donks. I did break my cardinal rule today of battling decent regs without any cause. Honestly if you arent killing 100NL or lower its probably because you just do too much dumb shit vs regs that you dont have to. These clowns will give you action no matter what.

Did make a gross 3bet ship in a 3bet pot in a spot where I felt I was best. Curious how people feel about the play. Basically this guy flats way to much and though a K is in his range I doubt he ever raises it on this flop. Which in my eyes mean he has a pure bluff/semi bluff or a set. Thoughts?

Well I have been busting my tail so far this month and have about 13.5k hands logged. Slacked the last two days due to mental fatigue but spent the hours away from live play studying so that should count for something. I feel like my game is improving slowly everyday and I just need to keep my mind focused on the right things and let the results take care of themselves.

I did have a beer today but unlike other times when I would have one beer and then another I simply enjoyed one and that was it. Hopefully that trend will continue and I can enjoy me some good beer now and again. Simple fact remains that I have to focus on poker and put partying and all that other BS on hold. I am determined to be comfortably crushing 200NL by years end with 400NL in the cross hairs for 2010.

We all have it. Jason wrote an awesome blog post where he briefly explained how he is able to play so many hands and achieve super nova (I lost my mind) elite. basically anything you truly want and have the desire to get you can make happen. I mean look around at the people whoms blogs you read regularly the passion shows inthe ones who have and are becoming successful. Personally I know at some point last July I lost the passion and that lead to a huge break even stretch where I blamed everyone and thing but myself. The simple truth is I am the only person who will either succeed or eventually not like the results I am getting and find a new passion. The 1st is what is going to happen.

This month started just like last month excpet for one minor difference. Instead of going fml I cant win at poker I have simply stepped back and analyzed my play and moved forward with the right frame of mind. I know this post has been a rant and I apologize but if you read my blogs you know I tend to go off on some hippy shit eventually.

The real reason for this blog was to set some targets for the month of October. My target day to be playing 200NL is Nov 9th and my target roll is 50BI. So I have just over a month and roughly 60BI to go. My target for the month of October is 50K hands and 50BI's. My target per session is 75minutes of A-game where I am mindful of myself at all times. My goal per hand is to take my time and clearly think thru my action before making the correct decision. All very doable.

By the way the title of this blog is the title of a book. Some of you may laugh when you google it and see the author.

Some how some way after starting this month off up 1k and plummeting to -2.5k and feeling like poker was going to own my soul again I have turned it around. Honestly I give a large % of the credit to two people; my old coach and my new coach. My old coach for telling me he didnt have the time and being honest with me. My new coach for showing me some leaks in our 1st session and inspiring me to play deep.

I have obviously been running fairly well lately but feel like I am playing alot solider then before. Tommy Angelos series is the nuts. Today I was just in the zone and plan to practice mindfullness before, after and during every session.

The results for the month are roughly break even but it feels great to say those words after where I went mentally. I havent had a drink since Sept 13th too and am going to stay off the drink and bust my fucking ass. It is time I realize the only person in my way is me.

Again. It is insane how I seemingly go up and down with this game every fucking month. This month began like all the others and at some point I began to stress and just meltdown at the tables while playing. I started 3betting too much and generally making bad calls/bluffs in big pots. This will always crush your bottom line obviously. I can whine and tell you i run bad but the fact is there will always be spots where run bad wasnt the issue. Yes cards can crush your soul if you let them but the truth is bad beats aside I am leaking too much money in other areas. Luckily I have found a coach again and will be working to plug them in the months ahead.

for my current downswing. I will be responsible for my winning month too. The simple fact is I am 100% responsible for putting my self in spots to win money. I know we cant control the outcome but I have been putting myself in bad spots lately and simply spewing way too much. Spew should not ever be a word I use to describe my play.

As you can tell I have a new outlook on poker and have set some high standards for myself as well. I will refrain from making my goals public but I will update you as I progress towards them. One thing I will say is I have decided to play 2hr sessions now and nail 3 a day, this should make volume a piece of cake.

Started off the month strong only to get housed last night at 200NL in 3bet pots. Decided to grind hard today and things have continued. I am going to stay solid and just play 100Nl for the next 10k hands. Hopefully my run gay in 3bet pots will subside. Nothing like setting someone up only to run OP into there 2p on a J64fd flop. Anyways poker is a crazy ass game which always slams you back down if you start feeling high and mighty.

My plan is to study and grind if my fucking life will ever allow for it.

Areas to improve

Ok so if you havent read Grogheadflows blog you should. I enjoy his style of setting areas to concentrate on during play and grading his level during sessions. I dont think I will take it as far as he has but I still want to identify some areas to work on and make them my focus during play.

1st and foremost my concentration throughout a hand needs improvment. Basically I never want to find myself in a spot where I am clueless of my opponents range. So my main goal this month and forever will be to think through each decision I make street by street beginning at preflop. There is no reason I should ever raise without stopping and looking left all the way around the table and considering stacks and my opponents tendencies. This should contyinue on every street as well. I want to always know why I am making a decision.

2nd I intend to improve on two areas of my game this month. Playing in 3bet pots as the caller vs aggro 3betters. As well as playing postflop as the non aggressor when I choose to flat from the blinds. I think these two areas are where I have the most room for improvement and are needed as you make the climb up the stakes.

My month has began slow due to my car issues but I am going to nail 40k hands. This weekend I am going to get to play a ton and make up for the two days I missed.

September has officially arrived and I need to play a shit ton this month. I crushed August but slacked off in the volume department. This month is 40k hands or bust. Speaking of busting my engine blew up on my ride while away on a trip which is going to put a dent in my BR for sure. Anyways just more reason to play play play. One thing I am lacking is study time as well. My biggest downfall is time wasting on the web. This month I am going to make a conscious effort to minimize web surfing and put a greater emphasis on pre game study and post game review. Hopefully this blog will be a place for some of that. I will be keeping a count on my sessions and hands as well.

Thats all the fucking hands I played this month after flying out to a sweet start. My kid being without daycare and camping/LA weekends amount to slacking. I killed it for like $50+ an hour playing mainly 100NL though I did manage 2k hands at 200NL with a very small win rate. I am actually a bit disappointed in my performance at the tables as of late and have some minor tweaks to make as well as some deep thinking to do. Sept should be a month for productivity with my little man back at school and no major events planned. I also plan on restricting myself from Sun-Thur drinking which will mean poker at night.

So I played quite terrible yesterday and was overall just not pleased with play from my 1st session which lead to me not playing anymore. ~Villain is a light 3better with a polarized range and he likes to pound on my LP iso's. I flat OOP which is a bit fresh for me and I am not to sure of it in general. Flop I excpect him to play straightforward given he knows I fold a ton to 3bets and when he chxs I know he is weak. Turn is a perfect bluff card for villain and I do actually consider leading it to take that option away. I decide to c/c instead with the idea of c/c the river. AHHHHHHH I am behind by a shit ton. Things have been going great but I am lacking in the productivity department. Only thing I can say is I am making good choices as to when to play and when not to which has helped reduce tilt/spew and increase my win rate. Ony thing is the hand volume isnt exactly where I want it to be. roughly 13k hands in 13 days. Not terrible but given that I am off for the next three days I will have some major ground to make up come Monday.

On a high note I am nearing a shot at 200NL which I am determined to make a successful one. My plan is to play mainly at night to begin with when the games are at there softest and mainly 3 table.

Nah I am just joking the count is 53 I believe. But tonight the games were so juicy it pained me to quit but I had to due to fatigue. 34vpip was the average on all 4 of my tables. Honestly if you play poker as your job or want to make money if you miss night time action you arent doing it right. There is no reason why you cant find a way to get a session in a few nights a week. Honestly I imagine most good players Hourly doubles from like 5pm-4am if they are playing there A-game.

One other thing I wanted to mention on here was the fact that I use to color code my HUD the old PT way with red/orange/green. I realized it created this bias vs aggro opponents where I would do spazzy shit and generally find myself getting mad at them. Recently I removed every color except for green and left everything else white. So basically anyone with fishy vpip/pfr/af will be green and everyone else white. You might want to give it a shot and see what you think.

I am drained. Today was a rough day at the tables with rampant 3betting and fish just making hands. It felt like FD's were coming in left and right. I stayed solid through it all and booked a win I think. The roll is growing which is nice and my game is getting stronger everyday. Nailed down another 4ish sessions booking 2.2kish hands. Definately had a solid day though I misplayed the AK once and missed value in a spot that made me ill. Stuck to no more then 5 tables and it is feeling good. I am talking on the tables a bit too much and may have to ban my chat again. In one instance I triple barrel bluffed a reg and berated him for being a hero. Poor etiquette for sure. In my eyes his call down is wack/-EV though my sizing may have been poor on the river. Got like 2.75 sessions in today along with a coaching session which solidified that I am playing solid which is my main focus this month and foreva. Honestly as long as I stay within my self I will crush this game. Nailed down 4 solid sessions today playing uber solid though I got coolered multiple times and misplayed a few hands too. Overall it was a great day in my book. I played nearly tilt free poker though I faced several spots which would have rattled me in times past. I am not sure but having become a gym rat may be helping my mental game. I wake up everyday at 6am now and hit the gym for 30min of cardio. Anyways enough BS how about some hands? ~Curious about this one as well. I think most will agree that flop MR are generally weaker then turn MR and usually include TP,MP and draws a ton. In this spot villain is quite loose and kinda aggro. Calling is ok but I dont think there are a ton of turns I love and I hate checking the turn to him and giving him the lead IP. I therefore apply the Dodgy theorem? I 3bet and he jams, bahhhhhhh lol. I played two 90 min sessions and a total of 1177 which is a little under what I assumed my per session volume would be but one session was 3 tabling mainly so that could be a factor. I believe August is off to a good start though I didnt actually check my results. That isnt why i started this post though, I actually want to set some goals again and aim high.

This month I want to play 50K hands of my A-game at 100NL with the possibility of mixing in some good night time 200NL games given my BR is accepting. I average roughly 650 hands per 90min session thus I will need to book roughly 77 sessions @ 90 min in length which equates to 115hrs of poker. I truly believe this is achievable. Its 115hrs of poker or 40hr work weeks of some crap job making dick and being told what to do by one. My plan is to aim for 3-4 sessions a day M-F with some weekend hours mixed in as well. Given my BR is healthy at the moment I am going to try and shy away from results as well and make decision making my main focus.

I have created a new 2+2 screen name as well and intend to flood the MSNL forum with responses since my aim is to reach 400NL by years end. Along with this I will continue to blog here as often as I feel fit with some HH for your viewing pleasure. Plus you will be able to find some of my troubling hands posted on either DC,LP or CR. No light 3bets OOP and everything went semi well. Table selecting well makes this easy as well given that I can simply having thieves on my right. Anyways put in 3 90 min sessions and it felt real nice though I am not so sure just how they went since I will be trying to shy away from the results and focus on my play.

I also plan to pinpoint one leak in my game and make it the focus of the week. This week it is simply avoiding spewy poker in 3bet pots as well as 3betting simply because. Honestly my biggest leak is simply spewing money to regs for no reason what so ever in 3bet spots which i could have simply chose to avoid. That being the case I have decided to implement a strict guide for 3betting. I will refrain from 3betting light OOp as well as firing multibarrels in 3bet pots as a bluff readless. Vs 3bets I will simply fold a ton until they show me that they can exploit me by 3betting me relentlessly. Sounds simple and it is yet I have such a hard time following. I just played a session in which I 5bet monkey jammed and DB jammed running into the nuts both times.

There you have is for the next week I will be on 3bet lock down.

Another thing I was going to do was up my tables to 6 on my 22inch screen but realized 4 is my optimal amount. My goal from today forward is to be rolled for 200NL by Sept 1st which means I need to make ~50BI at 100NL. The plan is to 4table and play 90min sessions M-F and nail 1 or 2 sessions on Sat&Sun when I can. If I play 4 sessions a day thats 6hrs a day. I plan on getting more rigid with the exact details in the next post.

I decided to close down my life blog and was wanting to start a poker blog about me being a donk and playing good as well so why not right here I guess. Mistake: So this guy is a real suspicious type who never folds to 3bet/4bets and just seems to be playing really laggtastic and owning. On the river I think his range is Qx which didnt beleive the DB or an Ax float which called for obvious reason and then the busted FD/SD. Single: Vs same villain as mistake. Basically i got the impression he floats a bit and felt like I could exploit that. Another good thing about this guy is he really really likes to make hero calls. I cbet which is uber standard. Turn I opt to check allowing him to bet all his Kx/FD/floats. Wow!!! I was a pretty positive guy. I have been basically sucking at poker since I began living with My girlfriend and son, they are not to blame but there has to be a connection right? I honestly think the biggest barrier has been me. I have put this pressure on myself to produce results so that we can live the good life. truth be told we are pretty fucking happy and have everything we need at this moment. I honestly feel like I have been a level one player since July. I simply hope for collers to be there for me and am a TAG bot.

My last post was definitely extreme but wtf I am extreme. My roll is 8600 which means I have 10BI left for 1/2 and if I drop to 6500 I will drop down to 100NL. <--- This wont happen!!! Its insane what reading through old blog posts will do. I read some of the poker related stuff and wonder what happened to me. I use to be a thinking player. There are moments of brilliance to but something has definitely stopped working. Hopefully the Duck Slayer can fix that.

I guess it is time to start searching the want adds. Just got through with another miserable session in which I ran like ass and I guess it could be debated that I spewed off 2BI's or more. Thanks Btimm for the positive words but honestly I cant keep my head up anymore. Poker was a game I loved because of all it afforded me but no longer do I enjoy it. Boo hoo me I know but the truth is I dont get it. It feels like the poker gods hate me and I cant catch a break. Basically I have decided to grind the year out and then start seeking a real job. Oh and my BR has hit an all time low as well. Part of me wants to say fuck it and stay at 1/2 but I guess I should drop down to .5/1. My son thinks I should be a chef, cooking school here I come.

Seriously poker has become so discouraging. Maybe the simple truth is I dont have what it takes mentally to deal with the ups and downs of this game. Did I play it optimally I dont know but is there anyway I dont go broke? I like villains play alot but fuck me he only gets my monies when it comes QQ,AA,QA and nothing more. Then you have all the sweet flips and coolers which i continue to come out on the ugly side. I turned 3 bdfd today in AI situations for stacks and bricked all 3. Twice I had AK vs AK the third time was AK vs KK. Obviously win these and I am not making this post but that is stupid. There has to be more then coolers and bad luck that is taking its toll. TBH my biggest hurdle has been playing vs thinking players. I have been trying harder and harder to shy away from emoption and simply play their range and mine.

I apologize for the rant but it was something I had to do. I have been so frustrated today by my sessions. Twice I feel like I am playing great poker only to lose 2 stacks at the end in nearly unavoidable spots. Tonight it was QQ vs AK and set vs set. Yeah poker. Looks like I might be joining the working world in 09.

New chair

I realized yesterday that my chair was terrible and it was time for a new one. I went to staples to buy a different one I had researched online but when I sat in this one I had to have it. funny thi9ng is it was 90 bucks cheaper and I didnt even know it. If you sit in a chair that you are not comfortable in and play I highly suggest an upgrade. I cant even explain it but I felt so calm and controlled at the tables today.

My session was one of the most boring I had ever played though and I managed to lose just under a BI with the biggest loser equaling $30. I just never got in any favorable spots and played 19/15 with a low went to SD.

Another thing I am now doing is timing my sessions using this which is awesome. I use the gong sound which is quite pleasant. Anyways just wanted to rant about my chair and the gayest session I have played in awhile. I was literally bored and checking to see if my session was over. Luckily I got a few hands at the end which were nice.

I put in 7 hours with 1 -4BI session and 1 +1BI session and a super gay break even session. Overall I think I played more then half the session without my A-game which I am not pleased with. I have decided I must revise my schedule to make my sessions 90 minutes rather then 120. Sadly enough I looked at my results since July and I am on a 178k hand break even stretch which is really fucking gay. Obviously this has alot to do with me and alot less to do with being 13k below EV over that stretch(maybe?).

The reality is my break even stretch has came since moving my fiance and son in as well as making the decision to be a full time pro. I believe my approach to the pro thing has been less then optimal and I need to put some time and energy into that alone. The thing is I used to just play mainly when I felt up for it and had alot of alone time to study. I got a ton of prime time hours as well which I lack now. I dont think that this should mean I cant beat the game though and I am happy to announce I have found my coach. See Duck Blog on right.

Eric is an awesome dude who plays the same games I do except higher and worked through the ranks recently. Also the fact that we are friends prior to the coaching should make things come together quicker. Granted i am in no rush and plan on making him my coach for months to come as we both move up.

As gay as my day felt to only be down 3BI at the end of it all is pretty sweet. I ran several 4 bet bluffs which got blown up. This leads me to believe that folks truly dont 3bet all that light or I have some poor timing. Also it was one of those days where if I had JJ-KK a over card to my pair fell on the flop and I encountered resistance. I did manage to win a 200BB pot which was LOL.

I had just doubled through this villain in a 3bet pot where I held T9 on T82cc and banked a flush on the turn. He held QQ and played it really fucking bad. Because of stack depth I decide to make my c/r large and it maybe should have been bigger. the turn does suck as he can hold 87 but I am going busto all day with the given history.

I also ran a river c/r bluff which I think was semi interesting. Villain is 29/22/2.6 and I opt to join the party since I have relative position. This is a good board to cbet and I see no value in c/r or leading thus I c/c. When he checks back the turn I assume I am good. best part is I ran above EV (not that I care). It is funny how I hate running below but now I am like wait a second does running above mean I am making bad decisions.

Today was a hectic day at the tables with me going up up up to 1k and then back down down down to near even only to turn it around and end with a very uneventful/gay night session. I nearly booked 6 hours but I am not overly concerned that I didnt.

As for improvement goes I have made two choices in that department, 1)I am going to get me some coaching, 2) I am now Hudless. I honestly see a TAG and get emotional when he has position and 3bets me. I do very spewy things based on HUD and need to focus so much more on game flow. I will be 4 tabling obviously. Anyways nailed 2136 hands today in just under 6 hours and am in the green for the month.

This is a major leak of mine. Check calling. I opted to c/c vs a reg on a wet board knowing he is firing here and also that I would check fold here alot. The river is a fold imo.

Came up a bit short but whatever. The truth is I wanted to play more but decided against it as this was my 1st real day back grinding and I didnt want to over do it. Logged 2104 hands while dropping 3BI. I played good overall besides a few too many bluffs and river calls. I really need to focus on hand reading and trusting myself to fold. The truth is I still am blown away by the suckouts on AP. Honestly playing at FTP for a stint I swear I didnt see as many disturbing turn and river cards. It isnt just against me either its while watching other players SD too. I definately need to snug up just a bit and learn to pick my spots better. I have two fun hands for the day.

Villain is a super lag tard opening everything everywhere. I should focus mainly on 3betting for value but instead I decide to make a retarded 3bet. When he donks the flop I wasnt sure what to do. I feel like he never has it but do I want to raise call it off? I opted to make a 3x raise and he calls. The turn is where it gets interesting as we have picked up some added equity. I think this is my biggest leak. Bet sizing. I should basically have 4x the flop setting up an easy turn shove. Instead I check like a bitch because I really hate bet calling it off with J high and I wasnt exactly sure what villains range is. The river is gin but is it? I considered flatting but then again he could have gotten tricky with a set or 2p and I need to ship. GG me.

Quick note: I am seriously disappointed in myself but at the same time proud of my poker friends. 2 players whom I started talking poker with more then a year ago are now leggo pros. 2 other players whom I started talking with early this year are crushing the game and 5 figure months are standard. I have decided that I will no longer stand for it. This is my month to get on the right track. I am going to be grinding like a beast and if results are showing come mid month I will be looking for a coach.

Today I did not fulfill my daily goal as the fam was home and we did the x-mas tree thing. I booked 1.5 hours and lost just under a buy in. My main focus this month will be 4 tabling with a random 6 table session mixed in now and then. Tomorrow I will play 5.5 hours. If anyone who reads this is a DC member I highly suggest you start using there forums. The midstakes are awesome as many of their pros give feedback. Also the forum is very user friendly imo.

My hugest leak, I imagine I am not alone here, is tangling with good regs and making huge bluffs that aren't necessary. Once I plug this leak and simply focus on making slid reads and owning donks life will be good at the tables. I know you want to see my spews so let me get to it.

Villain is a self proclaimed AP crusher who runs at 25/21/3 and is 3bet happy. To be honest he hasnt been too out of line vs me. I knew before I opened in this hand he was going to 3bet me and the solution is to simply fold preflop. Instead I decided to 4bet because of my read. He snap calls my 4bet and I hit a favorable flop vs his range to cbet. The turn is where I make a huge spew as I froze up and didnt think about villains range at all. This is an easy c/f imo as he should never be betting worse, you could argue a crai or c/c but I dont like either of those options. The only thing to take away from the hand I guess is that he isnt 3betting that light but my 4bet was +EV imo as AJ is a fold vs a 4bet.

So everyone always post their monthly results which is cool but I saw someone suggest treating our results as quarters. I truly think this is a better way to rate opur play especially if we are self employed. That being said this is my quarter to shine. I will try my hardest to not check results except for every other week and instead focus solely on making correct decisions at the table. Thats right ME! No one else clicks the buttons when I am playing. Every time I have a decision to make I have the opportunity to make the perfect play. The time has come for me to own. I know I made a crazy post several months back about playing the big game this year. I am not going to say that is impossible but I need a nice short term goal.

This is my 1st month as a true poker professional imo and it has been sub par to say the least. Again I am to blame. The good news is this month isnt over yet and I plan to go out with a bang. I have 4 workdays left in the calender and I will play no less then 1k hands each day. My goal for those 4k hands to play mistake free poker. In order to do so I will have to always think before I click. Every time I have a decision my 1st action will be a deep breath. Now for those 4k hands I will be playing strictly on AP aswell. Next month I plan on splitting my time between AP and FTP and playing a mix of 100NL HU and 200NL 6 max. I will play no less thwen 40k hands as well. By Nov I plan on being ready to reestablish myself as a 2/4 grinder and play my way into 09.

Have played 3 sessions without a HUD and I do enjoy it very much. I still have all the regs marked but I rely much less on HUD numbers and more on game flow which is nice. The 1st two were winners and the latest was another -6BI session. I know I wasnt going to focus on results, kinda hard when it means your well being and you havent been able to work or string together a winning week. I have logged about 30K hands this month which hopefully will be quite a load more next month. Poker has been very discouraging since my return from Hawaii. I am in my second straight losing month and I just feel like nothing is going my way. I seem to lose a shit ton of flips/get coolered/spew in marginal spots. I am seriously contemplating sacking up and joining a union. I might very well apply and play while I wait to hear back. I have basically decided college isnt for me. I have no desire to return and feel the degree I was going for (BUSINESS) would be worthless anyways. I know it sounds hilarious but I have been considering coaching some 50NL and lower guys as when I play those games I see some regs with glaring wholes and I know I could be of help. Plus a solid no variance income would be nice. I was thinking of offering my services for 50 and hour but I really want a dedicated student. Or multiple.

mentally and bank roll wise. I started the session playing super solid and ran QQ into KK and AA prelop and lost. I also lost with AK when I flop tp+nfd and get it in vs 2p. I did not allow it to effect me though. I simply acknowledged that I played my hand correctly and told myself to continue to play my A game. Villain was 24/6/2.5 I actually think he plays a very strong game. He 3bet/sqz alot and loves to make moves postflop. This was the 2nd time he raised my flop cbet on this table in like 4 orbits and he had floated/bet the turn with a gutter ball that got there on the river vs me on another table. I was going to 3bet when I realized we were 150BB deep. In retrosepect I think I should say fuck the stacks and trust my read that villain is uber bluffy postflop. Any opinions?

I was just checking some of my older notes out and stumbled upon this. I believe I took this from either J-man's well or Fabian's.

For anyone serious about this game you need to put in the work. Not just looking over HHs and reading posts, but also forcing yourself to be a critical thinker about the game. Stop thinking about results, and what the “right” answer is in certain situations. Think about why you are making your decisions, and why the answer is right.

Something that I read from a Gergery post, that I believe in very strongly, is that the better players essentially have less moments of stupidity, and not really that many more moments of brilliance. If you are an amazing poker player when you are in the zone, but you tilt easily, or lose focus, then you’re still crap. Why has Mike Matusow won a million dollars twice, and gone broke both times? Because he is a world class tournament player when he is playing well, but that just doesn’t happen often enough. Especially in a tournament all it takes is one lapse, one mis-step, and all your hard work is lost. Losses and bad runs are inevitable, but you will only be a “loser” if you let the losses push you off your game. There are plenty of talented losers out there, because they let results skew their vision of what they should actually be doing.

My last point is just to remind ourselves that we get everything we deserve in poker. No one gets [censored] over more than anyone else, and if you convince yourself that you do, then you are leading yourself down a bad path. It happens all the time that someone will make 5 bad plays in a row, then get all their money in as a huge favorite and lose, and then blame their loss on bad luck. All you can ever do in poker is make the best decision possible. Anything beyond your control is just that, immune to your complaints and self-pity. Any time someone will ask a question like “was he good, or did he get lucky to win that tournament?” I want to smack them in the face. As if the two things are mutually exclusive? Even if you were all in as a 5-1 dog multiple times in a tournament, and won every time, that doesn’t make you “more lucky” than someone who was all in with the best of it every time. If you get all in with TT and your opponent happens to have AA, you are at that point 20%. But when you got your money in, if his range was 55-AA, AJ+, KQ, then you really aren’t getting yourself in as a 20% shot in the long run. In my mind thinking that you are somehow more lucky to win against the AA than against the 99 is silly. It is like people who think it is a bad beat to have AA all in preflop, your opponent outflop you, then you river a set. All you can be concerned about is getting your money in in profitable situations.

Ok my final final note, is just to remind people to make sure they know why they are playing poker. If you are playing casually, then have fun and enjoy yourself. If you are playing for the money or like me for the challenge, then step up to the freakin plate and don’t be so lazy. Everything is within your grasp if you set your mind to it. Poker is a game not like much else out there. Not everyone can be a great basketball player, not everyone has the intellectual capacity for chess, etc etc, but in my mind anybody can be a winning poker player if they can pass a basic IQ test, and can learn discipline, and have the drive. Don’t let bad runs discourage you, think of the bigger picture. If you want to be playing WPT events in a few years, and not 5 dollar tournaments, it is more attainable than you think.

I suck at life. I am so insanely upset with poker. I dont even know why. I continue to allow emotion to play a role in my decision making and it is driving me insane. I just straight up lose it too. Thanks for reading this thing. Thanks for responding to my hands. Got some freee time today and put in a 3 hour 6 tabling session where I played 17/13/4. I was quite snug preflop but did manage to 3bet 5% and get some decent action. I am still adjusting to 6 tabling while trying to table select well. Like my growth in 6 max I think my game is regressed to my more nitty style which I feel is still very profitable. I iamgine I will slowly open up as I become more and more familiar and adjusted to 6 tabling. I still manage some decent reads.

I am super stoked about this month yet I have only got in 3.65 hours so far. I would be grinding like mad but of course if isnt one things its another. This time its my son and daycare. We dont have any for 3 weeks, which means I am running the show. Hopefully I will manage to get in a good 2-4 hours a day while we are without care. Thasnkfully preschool starts soon and we will have a nice solid schedule which will allow me to play the hours I want. My 1st run at 6 tabling on resized tables went well. I played for 3.65 hours without even feeling any fatigue. I used to play on full sized tables on two monitors and decided it was time to suck up and resize so I could watch one monitor rather then two.

The main reason I am writing this post is to inform the masses( so far I have 8 readers which is more then I thought) that I will be returning this blog to its roots. This will now be mainly a place where I post 2-5 hands after my sessions and I would greatly appreciate feedback.

My life is poker and when poker is bad my life has been bad. Well my mental state. This doesn't have any positive value or rather in poker terms such thinking is -EV. The plan: I am once again moving down to where my roll is proper, 80+ BI's. I will be 6 tabling for 30 hours a week. This alone should provide me with 3-4k of shear rakeback, which alone will be enough to live. I plan on doing this until I have somewhere near 60-80 BI's for 2/4 at which point I will begin slowly moving up. I know I know I swore off 6 tabling but I see no other option. Plus I know in my heart that I am +EV 6 tabling especially if I never auto check anything and take my time with every decision.

The hippy shit: No more results. No more EV. I am just going to play and embrace variance as it comes. Whoever said that thing about you will run worse then you ever thought possible. I believe them though I imagine I could even run worse them I am. The nice thing is August is going to be a crusher.

WOW I suck cock at poker lately. Obviously the cards have not been my friend much lately but I have made some very spewy plays too. Allowing a bad run to lead to playing bad is the worst fucking thing possible. I dont really know where this is headed. I dont want to whine about coolers as we all know its simply part of the game. Basically what is boils down to is making the least amount of mistakes as well as playing in a way which causes your opponents to make their own. I am so tired of thinkling inside this poker box. I have become this fucking robot playing two cards based on their inherent strength and not on the table dynamics and situation at hand.

This is poker in a nut shell, we will see the same hands and situations again and again as we play. The strong will create new lines and figure out their opponents lines in order to maximze there equity and minimize loss. I started July ready to rock and came out the gates strong only to make a run at 6 tabling and experience the swingiest poker yet. It wasnt 100% do to variance but more the number of tables and the style I was playing. I will be the 1st to admit it I am a NIT. I like playing tight and I hate swings. Of course they are going to happen but I think I can avoid some of the bigger ones by playing a little less spewy preflop. Unless I finish super strong, which I will try, July might be the 1st losing month of 2008. I know I say it time and time again but this time I mean it. Look for regular blog posts from here on out. Actually I hope to post 1-2 hands a day and hopefully you can leave me commenst.

Mixed emotions.

Chilling out in Vegas as I write this blog. It has been awesome yet I have had to deal with the emotions of being seperated from my family for the 1st tie in a real long time. To add to that we just moved in together and my son was just growin used to seeing me every morning and night. The hardest thing has been knowing how much he is missing me and not being able to do much about it. The only thing keeping me together is knowing that he has the best mom in the world there to keep him together till I get back.

Ok enough emo, how about Vegas? The place sucks. I mean that too. I mean it is awesome under the right cirumstance but at my age(27) with a family back home it isnt the same. I have over indulged in the food department just in time to get fat for my trip to Hawaii. The best part is the house and the housemates. It has been an amazing experiece and I have been fortunate enough to meet some real cool fucking dudes. The best part of the trip and the thing I looked most forward to previous to arriving was meeting Jason and his family( http://blitzpoker.blogspot.com/ ). They were kind enough to take 3 of us to heir home in Lake Havaseu Az and take us on an amazing boating trip. Hands down the sweetest boating experience I have ever had( http://dodgyken.blogspot.com/2008/06/boating-with-luckysob.html ).

In the poker department this month has been decent, 2/4 is going well thus far though it has been over a small sample. I havent been able to grind to much while mout here as I am on my 13 inch lap top whic isnt very good for playing on. I did crush a 2/4 session and had a long boring losing 1/2 session. I dabbled in some PLO today and will most likely continue just to add to my arsenal. Well thats all I got. Not the greatest post but I will try and make some more descriptive posts of the highlights of this trip when I get back from Hawaii.
